The 15 Best Restaurants in Los Angeles

With almost 17 years of experience calling LA home, I’ve meticulously crafted a list of the top 15 restaurants in Los Angeles that are my personal favorites and sure to satisfy your culinary cravings. Los Angeles is a city bursting with diverse dining options, and my “Top Los Angeles Restaurants List” is designed to help you navigate this culinary wonderland. From food quality and ambiance to exceptional service and decor, these restaurants have it all. Whether you’re a local or a visitor spending a week in LA, this list has something for everyone. If you believe I’ve overlooked a hidden gem, please share your thoughts in the comments below. Narrowing it down to just 12 was no easy feat, but I’m here to guide you to the most memorable  dining experiences in the city of angels. From downtown, to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica, there’s a pick on every side of the city. Enjoy! 

Fia – Fia offers a chic and contemporary Mediterranean dining experience. With its stylish ambiance and a menu featuring a fusion of flavors from the Mediterranean region, it’s a top choice for those looking for a sophisticated meal. It’s romantic patio and ambiance are great for a date night. It’s in Santa Monica but away from the touristy hustle of the promenade venues.

Catch/Catch Steak – Catch is famous for its seafood-focused menu and rooftop dining with panoramic views. Catch Steak, its sister restaurant, specializes in prime steaks and a classic steakhouse experience. I love the truffle sashimi, hamachi crudo, tuna tartar, and of course the famous “Catch Roll” and “Hit me” dessert. I also love the presentation of dishes. It’s a fabulous place to see and “be seen”. 

Polo Lounge, The Beverly Hills Hotel – The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel is an iconic LA destination. Known for its timeless elegance and classic American cuisine, it’s a favorite spot for both locals and celebrities. The restaurant’s history and luxurious ambiance make it a must-visit for those seeking a taste of Hollywood glamour.

Tower Bar – Located in the Sunset Tower Hotel, Tower Bar offers a timeless Hollywood experience. The upscale intimate and dimly lit setting and American cuisine make it a prime spot for cocktails and dinner. This is place has my favorite “build your own sundae” and has incredible scallops. Also, the last time I went, I sat next to Jlo. Talk about girl crushing.

The Little Door – A charming French-Mediterranean restaurant known for its romantic courtyard setting. It’s a perfect choice for a romantic evening with delectable cuisine. The patio is amazing, and the fish is a delight here. They also have a live artist some evenings doing art, he’s extremely talented. I once saw Jim Carey here.

Laurel Hardware – Laurel Hardware is a trendy restaurant housed in a former hardware store. It offers a diverse menu, creative cocktails, and a vibrant atmosphere. It’s top for me due to its patio and gluten free option menu. It’s a favorite with friends for happy hour and dinner. They also do an amazing espresso martini.

Craig’s – Craig’s is a hotspot for celebrity sightings and classic American dishes. It’s known for its upscale yet relaxed ambiance. It’s perfect for a girl’s night. The deserts can be super fun, try the ice-cream sundae with sprinkles and sparkles. 

Cara Hotel Management

The Cara Hotel – This boutique hotel’s restaurant offers a taste of California cuisine with a modern twist. It’s an intimate setting with a focus on fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. It gives you the feel you’re not in LA, but rather Greece or somewhere in the Med with its outdoor back patio and long white drapes. It has amazing fresh fish and incredible espresso martinis and desserts.

Cara Hotel Management

The Ivy – The Ivy is a famous upscale restaurant with a lush, ivy-covered patio. It’s known for its California cuisine and is a go-to spot for power lunches and brunch. I love it because it’s an old school LA staple, it’s beautifully decorated and at night can be quite romantic with the flowers and string lights outside on the patio.

Nobu Malibu – Nobu Malibu offers a stunning oceanfront dining experience and serves Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine. It’s a favorite among celebrities and food enthusiasts. The martini’s are incredible and on a Sunday it’s definitely the place to be. Adele was there last I was.  If you can’t get a reso here and drove all the way to Malibu, another great more casual option nearby is Malibu Farm. Cute pier location with amazing brunch. 

Sparrow Italia – Sparrow is known for its contemporary American fare and sleek design. It offers a menu that combines classic dishes with innovative twists. It has incredible cocktails, a lovely indoor feel with outdoor views and ambiance. It’s downtown LA and a great escape for amazing food.

The Restaurant at Bel-Air Hotel – Nestled within the lush and serene surroundings of The Bel-Air Hotel, the outdoor restaurant offers a picturesque and tranquil dining experience.This hidden gem in the heart of Los Angeles provides a serene escape, where timeless elegance meets culinary excellence, making it a coveted destination for both locals and visitors seeking a taste of refined luxury.

Bel Air Hotel Managment

Elephante-Elephante is a trendy rooftop restaurant located in Santa Monica. It offers a stunning ocean view and a chic Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a diverse menu featuring fresh seafood, Mediterranean dishes, and creative cocktails. The ambiance is lively, making it a great spot for a sunset dinner or a night out with friends. I 100 percent recommend the vodka pasta, it’s one of my favorite things on the menu and even comes in gluten free!

Toca Madera– Toca Madera is a contemporary Mexican restaurant located in West Hollywood. It offers a modern and upscale twist on traditional Mexican cuisine. The restaurant boasts a stylish interior with a vibrant bar area. Diners can savor dishes made with locally-sourced, organic ingredients and enjoy a wide selection of tequilas and mezcal. Toca Madera provides a sophisticated and lively atmosphere for a memorable dining experience. You’ll love the flaming cocktails, shots, and fire eating belly dancers.

Tao– Tao is a lavish Asian fusion restaurant situated in the heart of Hollywood. Known for its opulent décor, including a giant Buddha statue, Tao provides a unique dining experience. The menu features a variety of Asian-inspired dishes, including sushi, dim sum, and flavorful cocktails. The restaurant often hosts celebrity sightings and has a vibrant nightlife scene.

A few more favorites are BBCM, Il pastaio, Urth Cafe (casual), Fresh Corn Grill (casual), Duke’s in Malibu, Marvin (great for date night), Cecconis, Gracias Madre (Vegan but can’t even tell), Ysabel, Casa Madera, Madeo, Katana (old school, but still great), Water Grill (Santa Monica Location), The Proper Hotel, Il Cielo, (best for romantic dinner), Lavo, and for breakfast I love the simplicity of Salt’s Cure.

These restaurants are some of my personal favorites and best or trendiest restaurants in Los Angeles, offering a wide range of culinary experiences from Mediterranean and French to American and Japanese-Peruvian fusion. Enjoy exploring these exceptional dining destinations, and enjoy LA!
